Academic Partnerships

The arts and entertainment industries are at an inflection point. Nonprofit arts organizations and theaters are closing, the film and television industry is shut down, and advances in AI and other technology pose new challenges to the field. At Midnight Oil Collective, we understand that current circumstances are devastating and urgent– and that they also present an opportunity. An opportunity to disrupt patronage and studio models that have been problematic for artists for decades (or centuries). An opportunity to produce our own work and pilot new methods for engaging audiences. And an opportunity to adapt the innovations of the tech industry to help artists, rather than exploit them. Midnight Oil Collective believes that artists should be the leaders of the creative economy and the CEOs of their own artistic ventures, and we partner with schools and universities to offer programming, mentoring, and consulting to equip artists with the mindset and tools to see their visions through to fruition.

In our Incubator and Accelerator, we help creators build the ventures they want by equipping them with foundational business skills and tools - but we don’t want this to be exclusively available to our artist cohorts. We want to make this kind of mindset shift and knowledge accessible to all creators, and to creators still in higher education, before they take the first steps into their careers.

And we want to encourage practical application, which allows artists to immediately apply their newfound knowledge to their passion projects.

Midnight Oil Collective has partnered with universities such as Yale University and the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance to spread this movement.

Facilitating discussions, workshops, lectures, and venture studio programming inspired by our Pipeline program, we have taken our vision of liberated creators liberate creation on the road.

In all aspects of our educational work, we focus on cross-discipline collaboration, creator agency and empowerment, and inspiring the next generation of creators to imagine a better world through the arts.

We believe the first step to liberating creators is education. We hope to create a world in which artists can build careers and stability on their art alone.

If you’re involved with an educational institution and are interested in partnering with MOC, please contact us using the form below! Our workshops can be tailored to your department’s needs. We are happy to set up a meeting to discuss this further.
